Luke is the Musical Director of BYC Intermediate Choir and BYC Children’s Choir East. He has been involved with the Barnsley Youth Choir since 2015 after he graduated with First Class Honours in Music from the University of Manchester.
He now works across the North-West and in London as a conductor, workshop-leader, singer and composer. Luke was a member of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain Fellowship 2017-2018. In this year-long development scheme he received many opportunities to improve his choral leadership and performance skills with workshops from industry professionals and performances at Nottingham Concert Hall, St John’s Smith Square and The London A Capella Festival. Luke now works as staff for NYCGB, having recently been a section leader on the NYCGB Boys Choir 2018 Courses.
Luke studies choral conducting and leadership with Neil Ferris and Mat Wright. In 2016, Luke and Mat founded a new and ambitious adult community choir, Barnsley Singers which is open to singers (25+) of all abilities with no audition required. Luke conducts his own professional chamber choir, Icosa, and has conducted over 50 new works with the group in the last three years. Other choirs Luke has worked with include Bolton Chamber Choir, Ad Solem, Halle Ancoats Community Choir and BAE Systems Choir as part of the Halle Corporate Choir Scheme.
Luke works as both a choral and solo singer and has sung with Manchester Cathedral Choir, York Minster Choir, Manchester Singers, Exon Singers, Kantos, The Lacock Scholars and the National Youth Choir Chamber Choir. He currently studies singing with Andrew Heggie from the RNCM and teaches singing himself. He also frequently composes choral music and has had his music premiered in Bristol and Durham Cathedrals.
